The Royal Library part called the Black Diamond is a modern, waterfront building, which is the extension of the old library, still accessible through a corridor from the new wing.

The Black Diamond’s name refers to the architectural design of the building. It was opened in 1999 and since that it houses numerous of activities, concerts, exhibitions and events.

There is always something happening at the Black Diamond. Check their website for event calendar. It is possible to join one of the guided tours, every Saturday at 3 p.m. in a price per adult: DKK 60.

There are plenty of reading rooms at the library, you can decide yourself if you would like to use the modern one of the Black Diamond or walk to the old wing and use the one that will make you feel as you were in the Harry Potter movie.

In the café, Øieblikket, on the ground floor of the Black Diamond, you can buy beverages and light meals, the restaurant Søren K is to be found on the ground floor as well.

Just opposite The Black Diamond (cross the street and enter the area of the old library building), you will find secret oasis in the city centre of Copenhagen, The Royal Library Garden and Cafe Funder (opened during summer time).
