The Za Zaa offers Lebanese soul food. The restaurant, which is located very close to St. Peter's Square and thus also close to the Rhine and the University of Basel, invites you to linger, relax and immerse yourself in a foreign world.
The motto of the Lebanese restaurant is "When you have more than you need, build a longer table not a higher fence". They offer a variety of different mezzes. These are served in different variations cold, warm, with meat, vegetarian or even vegan. And also here the sharing with friends and family is in the foreground.
The different mezzes are served with warm pita bread. The restaurant also serves creative and varied drinks. So food is really celebrated here and it's all about staying and enjoying together. A wonderful place to spend a whole evening with friends or family.
And if you want to enjoy the food in Za Zaa in a larger group, they offer different group offers, each of which is reflected in the price and accordingly in the selection of different mezzes, so each group can choose for themselves what they like. Sometimes a small dessert is also integrated. The drinks, however, are charged separately for all these packages. But especially because eating mezzes is about sharing, such offers are absolutely recommendable because you can enjoy an incredible selection of different mezzes in larger groups.
But as the restaurant is very popular and there are only a limited number of seats, it is especially worth to reserve a table in the evenings if you want to have some space.
The restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., therefore it is also suitable for a coffee before a long city tour or for a stop at noon.
The Blinde Kuh (The Blind Cow) restaurant is located in Gundeldinger Feld, near the SBB railway station, that offers a wide range of cultural, social and gastronomic facilities. The name of the restaurant "Blinde Kuh" is also part of the programme. What does that mean? Well: you eat in complete darkness.
The idea behind it is that you can empathize a little or understand how much you have to rely on your other senses when you are blind or visually impaired.
The concept is that at the entrance, which is still lit, you can lock in your things and choose a menu. Drinks are then ordered inside.
Then someone comes to pick you up and then it's usually for the next few hours: Lights out. In the goose march one is led to the table prepared for a meal and then soon the first course starts. The difficulties you face at the beginning make you more creative and the food tastes very different if you don't see it.
If you have to go to the toilet, just report it and you will be taken there.
The Surprise menu is particularly recommended. This consists of several courses, of which you only learn what it is after you have eaten it. Guessing what you are eating and how much we often rely on our eyes is extremely interesting and a valuable experience. If you have allergies or eat vegetarian food, you can also order the menu without hesitation, because it is specially asked for.
At the very end of the experience you are accompanied out again where you pay the bill.
The Blinde Kuh restaurant service is staffed by people with visual impairments. This can lead to a very interesting exchange and dialogue. And as a guest at the end you should at least be a little bit aware of what it means to be blind.
The Restaurant Roter Bären is located in Kleinbasel in the middle of the red light district. What may seem a bit strange at first may work, but it's not for nothing that the Restaurant Roter Bären has become an absolute darling of the public since it was founded. The food and above all the concept, which is unusual for our circumstances, is convincing. The restaurant has a menu that changes every few weeks. What is prepared is seasonal. The portions are rather in starter size, so you can choose between 2 and 5 plates. So you can try a variety of creative and delicious combinations. And it is really worth ordering at least 3-4 plates. The individual delicacies are unbelievably finely tuned to each other and each dish is self-contained and well thought-out.
It is no coincidence that the cuisine of the Roter Bären was awarded 13 Gault-Milliau points in 2017.
But not only the food is convincing. The whole thing can be wonderfully combined with one of the wines on the large but finely selected wine list. And for those who would rather have something strong to go with it, the drinks are recommended. Here, too, there are changing seasonal cocktails, as well as classics. The Restaurant Roter Bären is therefore not only suitable as a restaurant, but also if you simply want to have something delicious and unusual to drink.
The ambience of the restaurant then skillfully rounds it all off. The whole thing was arranged with a lot of care. The hundreds of low hanging light bulbs do not only give the restaurant a wonderful light but also carry you away into another world. In combination with the dark wallpaper and the successful furnishing of the bar, in which there are also all kinds of other rarities, one feels very comfortable in the Roter Bären.
Therefore, the restaurant is suitable in summer as well as in winter for a cosy evening with friends, with good food, a good wine or a tasty drink. Either way, if you want to experience something really special in Basel, you should visit the Roter Bären.
The Restaurant Krafft, which belongs to the hotel of the same name, borders on one side on the Kleinbasler Rheingasse, which is very popular especially in the evening, and on the other side on the Kleinbasler Rheinpromenade, which is always crowded especially in summer. Accordingly, the restaurant not only has a very central and great location, but also offers a wonderful view over the Rhine promenade, as well as the banks of the Rhine in Grossbasel with its beautiful architecture and the striking Basel cathedral. And in summer, the terrace, which directly overlooks the Rhine promenade, offers a similarly wonderful view, allowing you to experience the hustle and bustle and the atmosphere of the Rhine bank from a distance and at the same time right in the middle of it.
The cuisine at Restaurant Krafft is based on regional and seasonal products. These are combined to create unusual and creative combinations. What is possible is done by the guests themselves so that the taste experience is optimally matched to each other.
The restaurant is open every day at lunchtime as well as in the evening, so you can enjoy both a lunch menu and an upscale dinner. At certain times it is worth to reserve a table, otherwise you run the risk of not having enough space. The restaurant is very popular. One can reserve a table by phone or online via the website, where one can also see if there is a free table on the desired day or at the desired time. You can also view the lunch and evening menu on the website and even study the wine list beforehand.
As the restaurant is one of the noblest and most exquisite of the city, the prices are also a little higher and one should pay attention to appropriate clothes.
The cuisine at Restaurant Krafft also regularly convinces critics, with the Krafft 2017 receiving 13 Gault-Millau points. And the Michelin Guide also recommends the cuisine of chef Hubert Mayer and his team.
The Brasserie Les Trois Rois belongs to the hotel of the same name, probably the most famous hotel in Basel. The imposing hotel building rises directly on the central bridge on the Grossbasler side. From the dining room of the Brasserie you have a wonderful view of the Rhine and the Kleinbasel Rhine promenade. From here, the New Year's Eve fireworks or the national holiday fireworks on 1 August are particularly beautiful.
The Brasserie specialises above all in French and Swiss specialities and delicacies.
If you want to be sure that you will receive a table, it is best to reserve it in advance via the website of the Brasserie Les Trois Rois or by telephone. Since window tables are particularly popular, it is possible that you may not always receive one. The chances increase, however, with a reservation and at best the wish of a window table in the reservation both on the website and over the phone mention.
The Brassiere Les Trois Rois has developed some interesting offers in recent years. For example, they can enjoy a 3-course meal at a fixed price with business customers or business partners.
Or the so-called "Shop-Stop-Shop" offer. This is valid on Saturdays. You can enjoy your lunch at the Brasserie Les Trois Rois and take a stopover and a breather on a shopping or museum tour. You will be served a 3-course menu and a glass of champagne. After such a refreshment, the second half of the day goes by as if in flight.
In addition to the Brasserie Les Trois Rois, the Hotel Les Trois Rois also offers other catering facilities. For example the Cheval Blanc, the Chez Donati or the bar where the famous Afternoon Tea is served.
Since the Brasserie Les Trois Rois belongs to a 5-star hotel and appeals to a rather upscale clientele, you should pay attention to not too formal but appropriate clothing when visiting.

For this reason they have now opened another branch at Aeschenplatz next to the already existing restaurant in Güterstrasse.

The Boo restaurant is located on Klybeckstrasse in Kleinbasel. It is an extremely popular meeting place for fans of Asian and especially Thai cuisine. The restaurant offers a manageable selection of delicious Thai specialities. From homemade spring rolls to satay skewers, to a variety of delicious curries and small desserts, there is everything. But not only the food is convincing, but also the drinks. Especially recommended are the homemade Thai Ice Tea and those who don't like it so sweet should switch to the Lemon Grass Ice Tea. The restaurant in the Klybeckstrasse is not very big. In the front part there are some large wooden tables where you can sit down either with strangers or with a large group of friends. The rear part of the restaurant is equipped with tables for two to four people and offers a little more privacy. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, you should try one of the smaller tables. However, as these are very popular and the restaurant is often heavily frequented even at midday, one should reserve a seat for safety's sake. It is not uncommon that otherwise one has to wait a while until one gets a seat.
But the restaurant does not only convince by its delicious cuisine, but also by the cosy and familiar ambience. The room appears modern, but not cold at all. The light and the few selected accessories and plants invite you to sit down, relax and enjoy. In summer it is especially nice to be able to sit in front of the restaurant and eat.
The staff is extremely friendly and courteous, which contributes to the cosy atmosphere.
Due to the continuing success of the restaurant, Boo has opened a second restaurant at the Messeplatz, which differs slightly from the one in Klybeckstrasse both in the furnishings and in the menu. But the Boo is a good choice whether it's in Klybeckstrasse or Messeplatz!
