Fisherman's Bastion (Halászbástya) is only 100 years old (Built from 1895 to 1902) , and is a favorite lookout in the city located on the Buda Castle Hill in the I. district. The Danube and the Parliament building can perhaps be seen at their finest from the vantage point of the Fisherman's Bastion. In medieval times, the fish market was nearby and the bastion was built to commemorate the fishermen who protected this part of the city. The neo-Roman Halászbástya has seven tent-like turrets symbolizing the seven Hungarian tribes that arrived to the Carpathian Basin in 896.
Fisherman's Bastion, as part of the Buda Castle District, has been a World Heritage site since 1987.
