Sitios turísticos

The eye catching Arch of Constantine (Arco di Costantino) is a triumphal arch situated between the Colosseum and Palatine Hill. It was erected by the Roman Senate to commemorate Emperor Constantine victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in 312. Officially completed in 315 AD, it was celebrated for its unique style through the use of spolia (reusing previous carved pieces in new architectural monuments). In fact, many of the scenes displayed are about other Roman emperors’ conquests by Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius. Today it is the largest and the last of the Roman triumphal arches and reaches and impressive 21 meters high. Although, we can longer walk through the Arch to the Colosseum, it sets the tone for the artistic magnificence but militaristic culture of Ancient Rome.
