The Museo Nacional del Prado is undoubtedly the most famous museum in Spain. Here you can see paintings by the most important painters in Spain and abroad: Goya, Velázquez, Miró, Picasso, Tintoretto and El Bosco, among many other famous painters.
The Museo Nacional del Prado is located on the Paseo de Prado and the promenade itself is decorated with sculptures, full of art. Inside the Museum you will find works of art such as "Las meninas de Velázquez" and "Los fusilamientos del 3 de mayo" by Goya. Its rooms have masterpieces from the Spanish, Italian and Flemish schools. El Prado has a valuable collection of 8,600 paintings and more than 700 sculptures.
The Prado Museum has the most complete collection of Spanish paintings in the world. The itinerary begins in the 11th century, in front of the Mozarabic murals of the church of San Baudelio in Berlanga. Next, the works of Bartolomé Bermejo, Pedro Berruguete, Juan de Juanes or Luis de Morales trace the arch that goes from Hispanic-Flemish Gothic painting to the Renaissance. The rooms dedicated to El Greco preserve some of the author's most singular paintings, such as "The knight with the hand on the chest" or the "Holy Trinity".
You can also enjoy El Siglo de Oro with works by Ribera, Zurbarán and Murillo, which help to understand the context in which Velázquez's painting arises, whose most important works, such as "Las meninas" or "Las hilanderas", are also in the museum. Between the 18th and 19th centuries, Goya's halls show everything from the cardboard he made for the Royal Tapestry Factory to the "black paintings" with which the artist covered the walls of his house, La Quinta del Sordo. There are also rooms dedicated to 19th century painting, with works by Fortuny, the Madrazo and Sorolla.
The Prado National Museum now begins its bicentennial celebration. A great excuse to come and see this incredible jewel of art. Every year the museum welcomes thousands of people. It is undoubtedly one of the most visited tourist itineraries in the capital. We recommend consulting a guide and preparing the visit before entering the museum, since it is really big.
