Squares, Parks and Playgrounds
Madrid Río is a large park located in the southern part of the city, on the banks of the Manzanares River. Its construction is recent and is the place where many people go to run, skate, play or just walk.
Madrid Rio is also one of the most visited parks in the city. Hundreds more people walk every day through this beautiful natural space, full of trees and with a river in the middle that crosses the city. It is an ideal place to go for lunch or snack with family, couple, friends or even take a walk alone and read a book under one of its trees. You can also practice skating or cycling. There are many kilometres of river where you will pass by the old football stadium of the Atlético de Madrid, the Calderón. It is also a monument to photograph.
Madrid Rio, thanks to its renaturation, once again boasts an incredible fauna. Historical monuments and leisure and cultural facilities can also be seen next to the bed of the Manzanares River. From a playful point of view, children have a great time in the 17 children's play areas that can be found along the Salon de Pinos, all of them with swings made with sustainable and natural materials such as wood and hemp rope, which form spider webs, hammocks, hanging bridges or climbing lianas. There are areas for children and others for older people based on skill, balance and strength.
As we said Madrid Rio also has space for adults. They can enjoy a great cultural offer with bio-healthy circuits, petanque courts, games tables and a Manzanares River Interpretation Centre. Many of the cultural activities (exhibitions, music festivals, plays...) take place in Matadero Madrid. It is a place that from here, in My CityHighlights, we highly recommend you.
And finally, in Madrid Rio is also the Explanada del Puente del Rey, where the Spanish football team celebrated its victory in the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
