City Hall was built in 1837 by the Italian architects D. Torricelli and F. Boffo as the First Commodity Exchange. The two side sculptures symbolize main sources of Odessa prosperity: Mercury as a patron of trade and Ceres as a goddess of agriculture and fertility. Every 30 minutes the clock on the top of the building chimes the popular melody “Odessa my city” by I. Dunayevsky.
