The historical building of Prague Theatre is the alma mater of Czech Opera and the national monument of Czech history and art. It played a crucial role in preserving Czech language and culture back in days. The ceremonious laying of the foundation stone was held on May 16th 1868 but the theatre opened its doors to public only on June 11th 1881.
Unfortunately, a few months later a fire broke out in the theatre. This event was seen as a national catastrophe, people felt they should do something and within 47 days one million guldens was collected. The theater was opened two years later in 1883 and serves as the main stage till today.
